Creating the Opportunity - Follow Up That Resume!
Am I going to get hired or not? While it is good that you've already taken the necessary steps in revising and polishing your resume, there is another thing you can do to make sure that your resume gets the attention it rightfully deserves.
No matter how sterling your resume is, if it gets lost beneath the all that debris because the hiring manager forgot about you, then all your efforts would have been for naught.
But why settle when you can still push? It's time to show some initiative! Here are a few things you can do to get that resume where it should be: 1.
Follow up through your contacts - A lot of times, most of us get the job recommendation from a friend or an acquaintance.
Perhaps this friend knows someone who works in the company you're gunning for? Why not inquire regarding your application through those channels? Or better yet, why not ask to be introduced to someone who works on the inside.
It never hurts to know more people, especially if you're marketing yourself.
2.
Follow up directly - Be pro-active and call the the hiring manager directly! This is a good way to express your enthusiasm for the job.
Nowadays it isn't that difficult to obtain the contact information of a company or a person.
You can always find out more using Google and various social media websites like Facebook, but be sure to use these contact information with discretion.
A polite email or call to the hiring manager's work address and number is a good move.
3.
Send a hard copy - Although a lot of companies nowadays prefer that you send a soft copy of your resume through online application (see why: The Importance of Using Resume Buzzwords), it's also a good idea to send a hard copy of your resume.
In the case that your online application somehow gets overlooked, a snail mail is a good way to remind them of your application, thus increasing your chances of getting hired.
