Your Future With Diet Pills

You are overweight, or should we say, obese, and you badly want to do away with a huge amount of fat that regular exercise and diet control can't easily handle. You have most likely thought of taking diet pills so many times already, or perhaps, have been taking them for sometime now. Besides a sexier body, have you also given yourself enough time to think of diet pills' side effects? Or have you considered giving your health and safety more priority while talking to a medical professional in scrub tops and pants about taking the medication.

Diet pills promise to trim 5 to 22 pounds with doctor prescription of not more than 6 months medication. People, in wanting to shed more unwanted fat, abuse their use by extending intake. Others simply take weight loss pills without even consulting a doctor, lured by the promises made even by unregulated, untested, and unproven diet drugs. Because of that, many suffer from negative effects worse than the expected side effects.

What future can you expect with diet pills aside from a slimmer body? Well, because different substances are used as ingredients in different diet pills, they also promise different levels of benefits and pose different kinds of side effects. Fat blocker orlistat Xenical, for instance, may cause abdominal pain, uncomfortable cramping, and diarrhea. Appetite suppressant sibutramine Meridia, on the other hand, stimulate sympathetic nervous system, raising risks of heart attack and cardiac arrest. Minor side effects may also include constipation, headache, insomnia, and dry mouth.

Recently, Abbott Laboratories' Meridia was withdrawn from pharmacies by the FDA due to unjustifiable risk of heart attack and stroke for just a very modest amount of weight reduced, following the same tracks as did other weight loss pills like Ephedra. So today, there is but one FDA-approved prescription diet pill that remains in the U.S. drugstore shelves, the Roche Holding AG's Xenical. Alli, by GlaxoSmithKline PLC, an over-the-counter version of Xenical is also available.

To achieve slimmer figure and healthy body, doctors in lab coats and fleece warm up recommend people to always try improving their eating habits, increasing their physical activity, adequate amount of sleep, and healthier lifestyle. Through that way, individuals are able to develop healthy habits that will have direct and long term physical and overall health benefits. Those who resort to weight loss drugs and use them for more than six months would most likely develop drug tolerance and dangerous levels of weight loss. And if after taking the medication, eating and physical activity were not improved, the amount of shed weight can just come right back.
