In Max’s room, he dreams of the moment he confronted the dean about his seriously flawed ideas, then wakes up. He sneaks out of bed and gets dressed while Stephanie sleeps. Stephanie soon wakes up and discovers that Max is missing.

Steph comes downstairs to the pub and asks Pete the usual question, if he’s seen Max. Pete says no. She phones Nick and asks if he’s talked to Max today, but no such luck.

She expresses her worry about not being able to find Max. He agrees to meet her at the hospital in twenty minutes. Steph gives her uncle Roman a quick peck on the cheek as he enters and she leaves.

Roman meets a refreshed Sami there and wonders what she wanted to talk about, then guesses it’s about Lucas. Pete comes over to the table, where Roman orders coffee and a bagel with cream cheese and Sami orders a fruit plate and water. Roman jokes how she’s going to waste away to nothing. Sami remarks how it’s been seven months since the twins were born and she’s barely getting her body back. “Trust me, Daughter. You look even more beautiful than you ever did,” he compliments. Sami thanks him and asks for his advice, bringing up how Lucas gave her an ultimatum: either she or E.J. must move out. Roman notes it’s a pretty big order. Sami states that there’s no way she can move out. “And I guess there’s no way that Lucas can make E.J. leave, is there? Even though you both want him to go,” assumes Roman.

“The truth is Dad, I don’t,” she confesses. Sami predicts that if she told Lucas this, he would freak out and accuse her of having feelings for E.J. “Do you?” he questions. Sami states that most important thing to her is that she and E.J. are both good parents to Johnny. She glares across the room in annoyance upon seeing E.J. and Nicole walk in together.

Meanwhile, E.J. can’t understand why Nicole didn’t fight for the money. She admits to having a softer side, she just doesn’t like to advertise it. E.J. proposes they celebrate, but she doesn’t think his “wife” would appreciate it. She suggests they do it another time on her. She then admits to being a little sad that it’s all ending because she’s enjoyed getting to know him. He says he’s enjoyed getting to know her as well. They exchange a quick hug before she leaves. As Nicole looks inside the pub, Dean Robbins approaches her and remarks how nice it is to see her. “What are you doing here?” asks a daunted Nicole. He strokes her face and remarks how beautiful she is now as the day he met her. She tries to leave. “Ah, come on Nikki. We both know you can never say no to me,” he taunts.

Roman gives Sami a kiss good-bye as E.J. joins her and shares how he’s getting a substantial commission. He suggests they go out and celebrate, but Sami discourages this idea. E.J. asserts that they need to talk about some things, rehashing how she was in bed with him, then she chases after her ex-husband and has been avoiding him ever since. Sami doesn’t have any answers, then demurs how Lucas wants one of them to move out.

In another part of the hospital, Steve and Kayla anxiously await the moment they get to hold Baby Joe. Steve wonders where Stephanie could be, remarking how her cell phone’s off again and she didn’t come home last night. Kayla deduces that she’s with Max. Steve wonders if they spent the night together and asks if it bothers her that Steph’s not there. Kayla explains how Max made some corrections on Nick’s prototype proposal and didn’t tell anyone. She surmises that he has a gift which he doesn’t want anyone to know about, and according to Stephanie he’s living a double life where he’s angry and alienating his friends. Steve wonders what’s got Max so tweaked. Kayla discourages him from getting involved and letting Steph and Max work it out for themselves. A nurse informs Steve and Kayla that they are taking Joe off the ventilator. She brings Baby Joe over to Steve and Kayla, who delight in holding their baby boy. Steph arrives and witnesses the moment and is soon joined by Nick.

Steve and Kayla join Nick and Steph after holding Joe, where Steph hugs her mom and expresses how glad she is that Joe’s getting better. Nick questions when they’ll be able to bring him home. Kayla believes it’s too early to tell, but Steve thinks it will be soon. Kayla leaves to go thank someone named Estelle for the sleeper she sent. Nick and Steph proceed to go their separate ways to look for Max. After Nick leaves, Steve implores Steph to tell him what’s going on with Max.

Victor later arrives at the hospital and wonders why Daniel’s not in the OR with Kate. Daniel informs him that Kate wanted another doctor. Victor believes she’s making a big mistake, but Daniel assures him that Kate’s in very good hands.
Lucas finally fesses up, but asks her not to tell anyone. She asks why he did it. He complains how he’s going stir crazy at the mansion and needed to get away and clear his head. “Promise me you’re not gonna say anything,” he requests.
Philip later asks his dad how things went with E.J. Victor reveals that they came to an agreement on the divorce settlement. A surprised Philip asks why he agreed to it. Victor admits he just wanted to put an end to the ugly chapter in his life. Philip jokes how they’d better count the silverware before Nicole moves out. Victor commends Philip on the job he’s doing at Titan and offers his complete support. Daniel then informs the gang that Kate’s on the road to recovery could possibly go home soon. Chelsea proceeds to call Billie and let her know. Daniel surprises Chelsea by asking her to have dinner with him tomorrow night.

Max arrives at the dean’s hotel room and breaks in after the dean leaves his room. He starts rummaging through papers, folders, documents, then tosses and breaks a glass in the process. Mad Max ransacks books, tosses a poster, and rummages through papers in the desk, trashing the room in the process. Max smashes a vase before finding a photo on the floor. When he hears someone entering, he quickly hides in the closet. Dean Robbins and Nicole are just outside the room.
