How to Install a NobleSeal TS
- 1). Clean the surface on which you will install the NobleBond TS sheets. Sand all plywood flooring by hand or with a power sander as necessary. Sweep away any sawdust and debris and make sure the surface is as smooth as possible. Use a wire brush to remove dirt and grease from concrete floor surfaces and sweep away all debris. Remove all drain fixtures such as strainers and rings. Skip to Step 3 if you are using an adhesive other than NobleBond EXT to mount your NobleBond TS membrane.
- 2). Apply a thin, even coat of NobleBond EXT adhesive to a 5-foot wide section of the surface with a 3/32-in. by 3/32-in by 3/32-in U-notch masonry trowel. Run the trowel over the adhesive in parallel lines once you have covered the entire surface. Skip to Step 4.
- 3). Apply an even coat of thin-set latex mortar to a 5-foot wide section of the surface with a 1/8-in. to 1/4-in. V-notch trowel. Make sure the trowel ridges are parallel to each other when you apply the mortar. Run your trowel over the applied adhesive in parallel rows to remove any air bubbles.
- 4). Unroll the NobleSeal TS sheet and lay it straight over the adhesive-covered surface no later than 20 minutes after you finish applying the adhesive coat.
- 5). Flatten the sheet and bond it into the adhesive with a 75- to 100-pound linoleum roller. Roll from the center of the sheet out to the edges. Lift the edges of the sheet at different points to make sure that the adhesive covers the fabric backing of the sheet. If adhesive coverage on the back of the sheet is spotty or overly thin, apply more adhesive.
- 6). Use a hand roller or the flat edge of a trowel to embed any areas that you cannot reach with the large roller.
- 7). Apply additional adhesive according to the directions in Step 3 or 4 if you need to install a second sheet of NobleSeal TS to cover any remaining concrete or wood surface. If the remaining surface is more than 5 feet wide, cover only one 5-foot wide section with adhesive at a time.
- 8). Unroll and position a second sheet of NobleSeal TS so that its edge overlaps about two inches onto the first sheet if you need more than one sheet to cover the full width or length of your floor. Insert a cartridge of NobleSealant 150 into your caulking gun. Snip the tip and insert an awl through the tip to puncture the cartridge seal.
- 9). Pull the overlapped flap of the new sheet back and squeeze the trigger of your caulking gun to apply a 1/8-in. wide bead of NobleSealant 150 to the back of the second sheet about 1/4 in. from the edge of the bottom sheet. Apply a second bead of sealant about 3/4 in. from the edge of the bottom sheet.
- 10
Press the flap back onto the bottom sheet and use the flat edge of your trowel or your hand roller to seal the second sheet onto the first one. Roll the remaining surface of the second sheet with a linoleum roller. - 11
Repeat Steps 9 and 10 for any additional sheets. - 12
Inspect the sheets for holes. Patch any holes you find by cutting off pieces of NobleBond TS and applying NobleSealant 150 to the backs of the pieces before you press them over the holes. - 13
Press on any section of NobleSeal TS that you installed over any drains to locate the drain opening. Cut the membrane over the drain with a utility knife and punch openings through the sheet over any ring bolt holes. Apply NobleSealant 150 to the drain lip under the NobleSeal TS sheet. Reinstall your drain and tighten the clamping bolts as necessary before you reinstall your drain strainer. - 14
Affix NobleSeal TS to any vertical surfaces such as flashings with NobleSealant 150. Apply one or more beads across the rear backing of the membrane and smooth it onto the surface with a hand roller or the flat edge of a trowel. - 15
Trim any excess NobleBond TS with a scissors or utility knife. Clean all tools with mineral spirits or solvent-based cleaner. Use warm, soapy water to remove adhesive that has not dried. (ref 1 and 2) - 16
Lay ceramic tile over the NobleBond TS at any time after you finish installation. Use thin-set latex mortar according to the manufacturer's directions. Place a protective sheet of plywood or rugs over the membrane to protect it if you are not able to lay tile over newly installed NobleBond TS immediately. Do not allow anyone to walk on the NobleBond TS.
