    • 1). Clean the male threads of the galvanized pipe with the wire brush. Make sure that no corrosion or dirt remains on the threads of the galvanized pipe, as this will make it difficult to connect the PVC later.

    • 2). Apply pipe dope to the male threads of the galvanized pipe and the threads of the female, galvanized coupling.

    • 3). Thread the female, galvanized coupling onto the male threads of the galvanized pipe.

    • 4). Place one pipe wrench on the galvanized pipe with the male threads and then place the other pipe wrench on the female, galvanized coupling. Turn the pipe wrench on the galvanized fitting clockwise until the coupling locks tightly to the male threads of the galvanized pipe.

    • 5). Apply primer to the inside of the male-threaded PVC fitting and to the outer surface of the PVC pipe. You need to ensure that you prime in from the end of the PVC pipe, the depth of the socket of the male-threaded PVC fitting.

    • 6). Apply PVC cement to the primed areas of the PVC pipe and the male-threaded PVC fitting.

    • 7). Slide the socket of the male-threaded PVC fitting onto the cemented end of the PVC pipe and hold the two PVC pieces together for 30 seconds to allow the PVC cement to bond the pieces together.

    • 8). Thread the male-threaded PVC fitting into the female-threaded galvanized fitting you attached to the male threads of the galvanized in Step 3.

    • 9). Place one of the pipe wrenches on the "nut" of the male-threaded PVC fitting and turn the pipe wrench clockwise to secure the PVC to the galvanized pipe.
