Update: Thyroid Replacement in Short Supply

• As of August 2009, patients receiving Armour Thyroid began experiencing problems filling their prescriptions. The laboratory fell into a backlog and many pharmacies continue to be unable to fill prescriptions. Some patients are being switched to Nature Thyroid; others who have no preference may be switched to a synthetic such as Synthroid. Armour Thyroid recently began shipping small amounts of its product again, claiming on its website that it will take all possible steps to clear the backlog. Your doctor will help you decide what to do in the case of lack of available medication.
