How to Fix Flickering Fluorescent Lights
- 1). Position the ladder underneath the fluorescent light box. Climb the ladder and proceed to open the cover. Most light box covers are held on by a small tab on either side. Slide these out and remove the cover to access the fluorescent tubes.
- 2). To remove the flickering tube, hold the tube with two hands and slowly twist it toward you. This allows the prongs on the ends of the tube to slide out of the fixture.
- 3). Clean the connections. Use a clean dry cloth and polish the prongs on the end of the tube. Then take the canned air and spray into the connection points on the fixture. This will blow out any dust that may be breaking the connection. Replace the tube and turn the light on to test.
- 4). Visually inspect tubes. Pay special attention to the ends of the tubes. If they are dark in color, then the tube is just about dead. Simply purchase a new tube and replace it.
