Indian Maharaja Luxury Train: What You Need to Know
The Indian Maharaja is a new and more luxurious version of the Deccan Odyssey. The train started operating in November 2009. It's got more frills and a new route from Mumbai to Delhi, through Rajasthan.
Features
The Indian Maharaja has 21 coaches, including 11 passenger cars and two presidential suite cars. The train also has a conference car (which can be redesigned as dance floor in the night) and two restaurant cars.
Fine Indian and Continental cuisine is served. There is also a library, lounge/bar car, Ayurvedic massage, steam bath, gym, and beauty parlor.
Route and Itinerary
Starts Wednesday evening in Mumbai and visits Aurangabad (Ajanta and Ellora Caves), Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore National Park), Jaipur, Agra (Taj Mahal), and Delhi.
The train also has Wednesday departures from Delhi to Mumbai, following the same route but in reverse.
Sightseeing in Delhi is included in both routes.

Seven nights/eight days.

The train has one to two departures per month, from November to April.
Cost
Passengers can either travel in silver, gold, or platinum class.
- Silver class costs $595 per person, per night, based on double occupancy.
- Gold class is $695 per person, per night, based on double occupancy.
- Platinum class is $995 per person, per night, based on double occupancy.
Silver and gold class stay in a deluxe cabin, with gold class passengers receiving individual sightseeing tours and transfers.
Platinum class stays in a presidential suite, and is entitled to individual sightseeing tours.
The rates includes travel, meals, conducted sightseeing, entrance fees, cultural programs, boat ride at Udaipur, and rickshaw ride at Bharatpur. Service charges, alcohol, and tips are extra.
