How to Rescue a Kitten From the Streets

103 3
So I went out to dinner with my wife last night.
I parked on the street because the lot was completely full - which has never happened.
So 50 minutes later, after a nice trout dinner, I am walking back to my car.
As I arrive, I see 7-8 people standing around my car.
"Oh no" I think - "Someone has smashed my car.
One day, I am going to learn to trust my instincts".
But no, that's not it at all.
Evidently a very small kitten has run under my car and is now hiding in my wheel-well.
The main guy tells me the story and that he has also called the fire department.
They finally arrive and get the little thing out, which then tears ass out of there.
After much chasing, the kitten is caught and no one wants him, as they all have a pet already.
I reach to pet him, and bam, I get bitten.
So now I have to take him, in case he has rabies.
So after much ado, I find myself in a 24-hour veterinarian office.
And this is what we have to get done 1.
He is only 5 weeks old, so he cannot get his shots yet.
The shots will kill him.
We have to wait another 2-3 weeks.
2.
He is covered with fleas, so we have him get de-wormed.
3.
He is filthy and smelly - So he gets a bath.
4.
He gets a small drop of anti-flea medication on the nape of his neck.
We put it there, so he cannot reach it and lick it off.
5.
He needs these once each month for the next 6-7 months.
6.
We schedule an appointment for 7-10 days, so the doctor can check his progress.
We stop at a pet store and buy the following A.
A large plastic carrying case.
This is so he can feel safe when he falls asleep there.
B.
Some wet kitten food.
He is starving and the wet food will help go down easier.
C.
A litter box that I place right next to the case.
D.
A large old towel, that will act as a pad to curl up on.
After eating twice, he went to sleep pretty fast.
Somehow he got out during the night, probably because I didn't lock the door on his cage.
He is now under our stove and won't come out.
But he has already eaten once this morning, and is now talking to us from beneath the stove.
Progress comes slowly with new life.
I am actually looking forward to having this new creature in our lives now.
A little magic doesn't hurt anyone.
