Dams and Sandbags - Which Medicine Costs More?

103 4
The more I research conditions like high blood pressure, stress, anxiety and even gout and hemorrhoids, the more I discover that the medications that are available for treatment are targeted at controlling a condition rather than curing it.
Nobody, except the sufferer of course, seems to be interested in addressing the cause of these conditions but rather focus on eliminating the symptoms.
Is that really healing? Imagine for a moment a valley floor that is beautiful and lush with a small river running down the middle.
A number of homes have been built along the banks of the river because it is so beautiful.
At the far end of the valley is a dam.
This dam controls the water flow into the river allowing the valley be as lush as it is.
Then one day the dam springs a leak.
Water starts running down the river and flooding the banks.
The homeowners rush out and buy as many sandbags as they can and furiously set up sandbag walls around their homes to protect them.
But the dam continues to leak and the water continues to rise.
The homeowners buy more sandbags and make their walls higher.
Pretty soon the the valley is flooded and the homes become little islands protected by the sandbags.
But the leak is not done.
With all the water in the valley, it starts to erode away the sandbag walls until they collapse and the homes are awash.
The homeowners were pretty short sighted huh? Well there are countless examples of this in real life.
Did you know there was a study that said that our Gulf coast could be protected from storm surges by rebuilding the wetlands that development had destroyed.
Our coast would be virtually unassailable from surges.
The report pegged the price at $8 billion dollars.
Nobody was willing to pay $8 billion dollars.
The report came out 17 months before Katrina hit.
What has Katrina cost us so far? Now think of that valley as being your body and the houses as being the organs in the body.
The heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and so on.
The sandbags are medication purchased to protect the organs.
The dam is the cause of disease, whatever that might be.
The water represents the symptoms of that disease.
The sandbags do a nifty job of protecting the house for a little while but when the disease persists, the sandbags fail.
How much did all those sandbags cost? Who benefited from it.
Not the homeowners because in the end the bags failed and the houses were lost.
How about the guys who sold the sandbags? Did you know they also had a concrete plant and could have patched the leak in the dam? But they didn't because they could make more money selling sandbag after sandbag.
In fact the more that dam leaked the more money they made selling bags.
Now take a look at your own situation.
Are you locked into taking drugs to control a condition? How high are your sandbags? When do you think they might topple.
Have you realized that the solution is to fix the leak in the dam? In almost all conditions there are things you can do with your lifestyle to "fix the leak in the dam".
Diet plays a huge part as well as just an active healthy lifestyle.
You don't have to rely on the sandbag merchant if you don't want to!
