We wanted to talk about and promote the fantastic Allergon range of waterproof mattress and pillow protectors. They are available in several sizes for baby cots through to king size double beds.
We actually stock the baby, toddler and child protectors including cot bed mattress protectors which is why we will focus on these, but the same information applies to the whole Allergon range.
What is Allergon?
Allergon is the perfect solution for the growing number of people who suffer from an allergy to the house dust mite. Can I Use Allergon Products for My Baby / Toddler?
Yes. Not only do the mattress and pillow protectors offer a solution to allergy sufferers but they also prevent your childs mattress or pillow becoming ruined if you child wets the bed. There are so many mattress protector products on the market it is often difficult to know which one to choose and why one product is better than another.
Any mattress protector is good if it stops the mattress becoming soiled as this can deteriorate the mattress very quickly. The entry level protectors tend to be PEVA flat sheet with a fabric covering which sits over the mattress. The better protectors including the Allergon range are a fitted sheet that fits snug over the mattress and feels more like a standard sheet than a thick cumbersome plastic sheet.
Will My Baby Feel Hot With a Mattress Protector?
Well this can be a problem with the PVC flat sheets but the Allergon protectors are breathable which means that your baby or child shouldn't over heat in bed. If you choose to use the pillow protector on a single pillow you will find that the protector will offer the same breathable qualities.
Should I Use a Flat Sheet With the Mattress Protector?
Yes. Although the allergon protectors are thin and soft you should use a flat sheet or fitted sheet over the top. This will offer greater comfort. Using a cotton flat or fitted sheet rather than a polyester sheet will also avoid problems with your child over heating in bed.
