How to Write Scary Stories with Children
- 1). Construct a book by placing three to five sheets of white construction paper in between two sheets of black construction paper.
- 2). Punch three holes into the construction paper vertically along one of the sides.
- 3). Tie the pages together with the orange yarn by looping the pieces through the holes. The end result should be a booklet.
- 4). Decorate the front page of the book with a Halloween or scary-themed object, such as a ghost. Using a white crayon will help the picture stand out from the black construction paper.
- 5). Instruct all the children at the gathering or party to sit in a circle. Give each one of the children a pen or pencil.
- 6). Begin the story by having the adult at the gathering write the first line. Start the tale with an ominous phrase such as "It was a dark and stormy night..." or "Once upon a time there was a ugly witch that lived in a spooky tower..."
- 7). Hand the story to one of the children in the circle. Ask the child to continue the story for two minutes. Once the two minutes is up, instruct the child to hand the story to the person on their right.
- 8). Pass the story along until each child has had a turn to add to the story.
- 9). When the story comes back to you, give it an ending. Then read aloud the complete story.
