Installation of a 12 Volt Receptacle
- 1). Find a location to mount the 12-volt outlet. A flat surface on the center console or dashboard of the vehicle is ideal.
- 2). Clean the surface with a damp rag and let it dry.
- 3). Peel off the backing from the two-sided tape on the back of the 12-volt receptacle. Press the outlet against the surface so it sticks.
- 4). Run the white wire to the driver's foot well and find a place to ground it. Attaching the wire under a bolt fastened to the metal body provides a good ground. Loosen the bolt, scrape off the wire's insulation and slide the bare wire under the bolt's head, then tighten it down over the wire.
- 5). Run the red wire from the outlet to the driver's foot well. Locate the black round rubber grommet that provides access through the firewall.
- 6). Cut a small hole in the center of this grommet with the utility knife and push the red with through it.
- 7). Open the front hood of the vehicle and pull the red wire into the engine bay. Run the red wire around the outside of the engine toward the vehicle's battery.
- 8). Loosen the positive terminal on the battery with a wrench. Slide the red wire underneath and tighten it down. Secure the loose wires with cable ties.
