    • Whether you are seeking the natural sights of Glacier Natural Park or the urban surroundings of cities such as Seattle, train trips offer an unique traveling experience across the Northwest part of the United States. Trains that offer tours present guests with many options for locations, length of travel and amenities.

    RailsNW Tours

    • Rainier Rambler departs from restored Elbe depot. Each trip is limited to less than 100 passengers. Steam locomotives run through stops in Elbe, Mineral, Divide, Trestle and Mineral Lake. Barbecue-catered meals are provided for all guests. Tickets are $85 per person.

      Oregon Coastal Crawler lasts five hours and runs up the Oregon coast. Garibaldi, Barview, Ocean Lake Park, Twin Rocks, Saltair, Tillamook Beach, Rockaway, Lake Lytle, Manhattan Beach, Haddon, Brighton Beach and Wheeler are stops in the tour that uses only vintage steam engines. A picnic is offered at Wheeler for lunch in addition to a snack at Rockaway Beach. Tickets are $98 per person. Children under age 5 ride free on both tours.

    Amtrak Tours

    • Great Northwest By Rail goes on for 13 days and 12 night. The 15-mile nonescorted tour features time in Seattle, Glacier National Park as well as Banff in the Canadian Rockies. Prices start at $3,649 with dining provided for no extra charge. Tours such as the Seattle Harbor and Trolley Tour and Big Sky Circle Tour in Glacier Park are offered with the reservation price. Northern Border/ Pacific Northwest by Rail takes a nonescorted tour with an Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle over the course of 11 days and 10 nights. Puget Sound plus the Cascade Tunnel in the Cascade Mountains are on display during the tour. Prices start at $2,600 for coach accommodations. Meals both on and off the train are included in the price.

    Mount Rainer Scenic Railroad

    • Mount Rainer Scenic Railroad from Divide Washington travels on an 18-mile trip lasting about two hours. The tour uses steam locomotive and passes over many trestles with views of Storm King Mountain. Adult tickets range between $23 while in the peak season of July through August and $20 the rest of the year. Senior, children and military discounts are available.

    Mount Hood Railroad

    • Mount Hood Railroad provides rail service to the Hood River Oregon area from the Columbia River Gorge to Mount Hood for two- or four-hour tours. Odell Train Excursion runs from Hood river to Odell. An adult ticket costs $25 with an additional $10 charge for seats in the Upper Dome. Discounts are available for children and seniors.
