How to Remove a Gutter on a New Roof
- 1). Situate a ladder under the gutters next to a downspout. Put on eye protection and gloves. Climb the ladder and look into the trough and at the downspout to see how it is attached to the home. Use a pry bar or screw gun to pop out the rivets or unfasten the screws from the downspout and trough for a starting point.
- 2). Snip the metal strips over the trough with aluminum snips. These are sometimes attached directly to the roof or to the gutter itself. This will help expose attachment points along the entire trough in the gutters. Remove the screws or rivets along the inside of the trough in sections, allowing the gutters to separate from the house.
- 3). Pull the gutters away from the house as the attachment points have been unfastened taking care not to pull singles or tiles off the new roof. Throw them away from the house as they come off the roof to prevent damage to walls and windows.
- 4). Fill all the attachment holes with caulk using a caulking gun. Prime and paint over the roof where the gutters hung or install new gutters on the house.
