The End of the World? December 2012 and the Prophecies
Many people are fretting over the possibility that the world will end on that date.
Is this possible? How can life as we know it end so abruptly? Well, to some there have been warning signs aplenty.
In the past few years there have been a record number of disasters like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and wildfires.
The number of people who believe in a cataclysmic event on December 2012 is growing by the day.
They are preparing for the worst by stocking up on food supplies.
Some even go as far as building their own bomb shelter and learning how to hunt for food.
There are survivalist groups popping up all over the world who believe that the best way to prepare for the coming year is to go off the grid and stop being reliant on electricity, normal businesses and the internet.
That being said, the internet is the best resource to find information about the so-called doomsday.
A simple search of '2012' will give you hundreds of thousands of hits.
You need to be aware that not all of these sites reveal the truth about 2012.
Some people are out there trying to provoke fear about the people and want to cash in on it be selling books and even commemorative t-shirts! Many people are looking skyward for signs of the apocalypse.
One theory states that the magnetic poles will shift causing one half of the Earth to be covered in ice, creating a new Ice Age.
Another theory, related to the previous one, says that an unknown planet will collide with ours causing massive damage and catastrophe.
If it sounds like a plot to a movie that's because it is; the Bruce Willis film "Armageddon" and the 1998 film "Deep Impact" both have a large asteroid hitting the Earth as the main plot.
These two theories intertwine with another proposed by John Major Jenkins, an expert on Maya astronomy, said that a Galactic Alignment will occur on December 2012.
Some people took this as a sign of doom, even though Jenkins himself vehemently denies that the end of the world will take place that month.
Although he does believe that the Galactic Alignment will bring about a "transformative nexus in time...
inviting us to reconnect with our cosmic heart.
" Government groups like NASA claim that no such thing will occur.
There will be no magnetic shift of the poles, no Planet X will collide with the Earth and the Galactic Alignment has no consequence for us.
Instead it will be like any other day, like any other year.
So it's up to you to decide whether you'll spend that day shovelling snow from your driveway or whether you'll be drinking the Kool Aid.
