Great Gifts for Soldiers
- A journal can be useful no matter where the soldier is stationed. Some troops may find it cathartic; they can use the journal to release their deepest thoughts. A soldier can also write the journal specifically to one person as a book of letters.
- Goodies are always appreciated, especially those tasty treats that the soldier can't find where he is stationed. Consider sending food gifts such as beef jerky and granola bars. Before mailing any food, make sure you are able to send it, as there are restrictions that vary depending on where he is stationed.
- Soldiers who are away from home may have a difficult time being separated from their loved ones. Consider requesting letters from as many of the soldier's family and friends as possible, and then put these letters together into a scrapbook. If someone wants a letter to remain private, leave it in an envelope and insert it into the scrapbook as is.
- Sometimes there is nothing like hearing a loved one's voice---especially when you're many miles apart, or even on the other side of the world. A soldier can get a lot of use out of a phone card. For someone stationed overseas, make sure the phone card is for international calls and not just local.
- Fill the first three-quarters of a photo album with pictures and leave the remainder empty for the soldier to put in pictures taken wherever he is stationed. Include a disposable camera to make it easier for him to take his own pictures.
- Fill the MP3 player with the soldier's favorite songs. It allows him to take a familiar piece of home wherever he is. The music can also help to bring a sense of peace and relaxation.
- A large Bible may be appreciated, but a small one can fit in a soldier's pocket whether or not he is in uniform and wherever he is stationed. Put a special inscription inside the cover for extra inspiration.
