A Big Kitchen Is The Perfect Place For A Big Family
My wife comes from a very big family.
I never considered my family of two brothers, four cousins and a hand to be small until the first time I went over to her family's house for food I ended up meeting sixteen cousins, three brothers, one sister, two infants, one dog and two cats.
And all that was before I even made it past the front yard! By the time I reached the living room I had shaken more hands and kissed more babies than a politician on the campaign trail.
I pretty sure I answered more questions too.
After receiving the full tour I was fully impressed by the look and feel of her family home.
Her large family filled every inch of the house and where they went love and stories came too.
The entire experience went a long way in convincing me that a open, clean and big kitchen is key if one is to have or entertain a large family.
I can see the end result of my wife coming from such a large family in the way she treats our son and our home.
After I discovered that her father had renovated the house she grew up in with his bare hands, several times, I got the impression that my 4 years of college spent reading classical ballade poetry wasn't going to be of any help when I tried to make small talk with her father.
Luckily for me her father wasn't too hard on me.
Although, my knuckles still hurt from the first handshake he gave me.
We spent time talking about his views on families and how to improve a home physically in order to improve it emotionally.
He advocated that if you want a large family you need to be able to feed a large family.
Being able to prepare food for and serve food to 20 or more family members creates an atmosphere where members of the family feel welcome and also are encouraged to attend family events.
A small kitchen keeps members out of it, forcing them to engage each other in rooms with big-screen televisions and computers.
The key is to have enough going on in the kitchen to encourage large discussions and to hear elders share stories.
A large durable kitchen and counter are integral to ensuring the whole family can come to the table.
