While escaping into the excesses of the imagination with science fiction or dramas can be a great form of television or cinematic entertainment, it is most certainly not the only way. Sometimes, reality television provides you with the excitement and events that we can better relate with. And often, reality is even more dramatic and exciting than whatever we can come up with! With a several years since the launch of reality television, there have been many hit reality series that has appeared on satellite television. The following are some of the most popular and successful series.

1. America's Next Top Model. Placing dozens of beautiful women aspiring to be models in Tyra Bank's reality modeling competition in the same house can only results in drama, tears, and excitement. With 13 seasons and "top models," the show provides the viewer in the lives of these models, making you both envious of their bodies, self-conscious of your own, yet somewhat glad you aren't a part of this intense culture.

2. Survivor. This series is perhaps what has launched the success of reality competition shows. Usually 18-20 strangers complete, stranded in the wild as they seek to not only survive the elements, but to also survive the wrath of their peers. Weekly, they vote someone off their tribe and the ultimate survivor not only wins $1 million, but also the title of Sole Survivor. With 30 days in the wilderness and away from their comforts, familiarity, and friends in both a hostile physical and mental state, it can be challenge for them; however, it is definitely exciting for viewers to watch--particularly in HD.

3. American Idol. Another cultural phenomenon is American Idol--the ultimate singing talent show, producing household names and a few of the biggest names in the music industry. It provides you entertainment in several ways: the horrid singers of the auditions, the awe-inspiring talents of the contestants, and the comedic insults of the judge Simon Cowell. Some of the biggest names to come from this satellite TV show include Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood. It is no wonder that this show has continuously topped the charts as the most viewed show for several years. Plus, the interactive element in which America--the viewers themselves--vote for candidates weekly makes it a much more entertaining experience.

4. Amazing Race. This reality competition show follows 11 or 12 duos as they travel the world in the mother of all scavenger hunts, with the ultimate prize of $1 million. It showcases the world as these individuals persevere through high times and low with their partners. Given its popularity and suspenseful events, it has won 8 Emmy Awards and gained quite a following as it successfully launches season after season.

All these popular shows, while they differ from the hospital dramas, the classical sitcoms, or even sports games of television, have something to offer American viewers. Plus, watching your favorite reality shows in HD quality can most certainly enhance your television entertainment experience.
