How to avoid costume catastrophes is a hot topic to every belly dancer.
There is so much to the belly dancing outfit that some dancers have gotten pretty creative as to what they want to wear.
For example one dancer wanted to bring even more sex appeal to her dance so she went with just a coin bra cover and coined hip belt with little to no skirt.
She wore just enough to barely cover her most private parts.
Now many professional dancers have tried this and gotten away with it, but for the average dancer this is a definite no-no.
For the simple reason it really restricts you in your movements as you are always trying to make sure you don't expose more then you really intended.
It turns into a burlesque show instead of a belly dance performance.
This outfit is sexy that's for sure, but the fact you can't move like you would like to gives a performance that is lacking in true belly dancing quality.
Trying on your costume to make sure it fits in "all areas".
Does your skirt fit so low when you turn around you can see the "crack" of your bottom showing? Does the bra show off your cleavage or do you need more padding? Remember, no matter what don't ever fill our bra with tissue paper to add more cleavage.
If it sneaks out while you are dancing, well the embarrassment will be enough to assure you won't ever do that again.
Harem pants should be tested for movement.
By this I mean sometimes they are cut so narrow that you cannot step without ripping them.
Is your headpiece and hairpiece fitting snugly? You can lift the hair and put the elastic underneath the back.
You just don't want it slipping while you are dancing.
Secure it firmly in place.
Last but not least, never put your costume into a plastic bag to store it after a dance.
It will literally mildew and the smell will be disastrous! Need I say more! Hang to dry and dry clean as often as necessary.
As you dance your body aroma goes out into the room, you want to make sure that the aroma is a sweet pleasant one.
