LED Light Therapy For Skin

101 6
There are many light-based skin treatments that help you to change the appearance of your skin. But these therapies use intense pulsed laser and light treatments that cause thermal damage to your skin. On top of that, these high-power dense and focused lasers can have serious side effects and you will need a long time to recuperate after such a procedure. But with LED light therapy, the light used is diffused and hence can penetrate deeper than lasers. It also can be applied over the entire area during the treatment but without any harm to the patient.

How LED Works

When you undergo a LED treatment, the light from it interact with your cells and prod them into producing and multiplying new elastic and collagen cells of your body. The former is a kind of connective tissue which results in the elasticity of your skin. The wavelengths of LEDs can be controlled and cells can be turned off and on depending on need. That is why studies have shown that this kind of energy is helpful in other areas as well like in stopping collagen formation in certain areas to prevent the formation of scars.

What Happens During LED Treatment

During a LED light therapy session, a lamp delivering steady stream of LED energy is used. It is aimed at the needed area of treatment. The whole session can last anything from 30 to 20 minutes and you can go back to work and your regular schedule after it is over.

If you are keen to take this anti-aging treatment, know that experts belief is that you will need one LED skin treatment of 30 minutes duration every 7 to 10 days for a period of nearly one and half months i.e. six weeks. After that, you have to go for maintenance treatment every month or two.

The number and length of your LED light therapy will depend on how severe your problem is as well as the surface area that is being treated. After each scheduled session, you will see a progressive result and noticeable improvement. As the treatment comes to close, the interval time between two sessions may be lengthened.

Benefits Of LED Treatment

There are many areas in which LED treatment has proven to be effective. They include reduction of acne scars and wrinkles, skin strengthening, reduction of brown spots and freckles and improved texture. Another area where this treatment bests the others is that it can be used on all kinds of ethnic skin types unlike other light-based treatments. It is also more affordable than others. For combating sun damage and aging, LED light therapy is known to produce only positive results.

Drawbacks Of LED Therapy

There are some side effects of this kind of therapy and they include tingling after a session and redness. But sometimes to get the best results, multiple treatments are required and for that you may have to be under the treatment for three to six months!

Cost Of LED

As for the cost of your single LED therapy, it can be anything from $200 to $50, as per the prevalent market rates in June 2010. So if you have to go for a prolonged therapy, it can become a bit costly. That is why there are some places offering LED skin rejuvenation kits that can be used in home. With such a kit, you can conduct the treatments yourself for around $300 to $500 dollars.
