Hair Extension Care tips
Proper care is essential to ensure your glued hair extensions last well and look good.
Here are a few tips:
1 Wash gently in cool to warm water and Brush gently working from ends toward scalp before and after washing. Hair extensions should not be more than twice the length of your normal hair. Never go to bed with them wet, but always tie your hair up when sleeping, this will help prevent tangling and other such problems
2 Use large tooth combs for hair extensions to detangle the hair and avoid combing from the root as this is where your hair is and you'll tug at the connection of the weft.
3 Use a gentle conditioning/moisturizing shampoo for dry-color treated hair. NEVER USE A VOLUMIZING SHAMPOO! Volumizing shampoos raise the cuticle of hair and can cause tangling. And it's best not to wash more than 3 times a week unless you have a very oily scalp. Over washing will dry the hair.
4 Try to avoid salt water or chlorine. Not only will it cause your hair to tangle, but also chlorine is a very harsh chemical that can damage your hair extensions. You can prevent your hair from making direct contact with the water by using a swimming cap.
5 When brushing, use soft bristle brush with wide teeth or a paddle brush with wide teeth. Start at the ends of your hair and brush in a downward motion and gently work your way up to you roots. Do not brush harshly. Brush your hair 2 or 3 times a day if possible, this can include running your fingers through your hair extensions.
6 If hair extensions become dry and damaged treat once to twice a week with Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator, dry hair, follow by smoothing with a flat iron or curling iron to seal the cuticle.
7 Be careful with the use of blow dryers and curling irons. It is best to let your hair dry naturally. If you must use heat, make sure you use a spray-in treatment before and after you style your hair.
AVOID:
Cheap hair extensions products from retailers like supermarkets. Go for premium quality brands such as those sold at quality hair salons or else specialist hair extension care products.
Hair conditioners or styling products containing heavy oil or wax.
Any reconstructive conditioners, hot oils/wax treatments, perms, permanent dyes or alkaline shampoos.
Rapping your wet hair in a towel as this can cause tangling. Blow wet hair extensions with a towel without rubbing it.
