• Medium- to large-sized flower urns can accent any area of your landscape, garden, home entryway, or patio. Because larger flower urns often do not have a drainage hole, before adding potting soil and plants, either drill a drain hole in the bottom or put 3 to 4 inches of clean pea gravel or small rocks in the bottom. Grow a focal flowering plant, small tree or topiary in the center of your flowering urn, then surround it with coordinating colorful shorter plants. Finally, add cascading vines or flowering plants, like lobelia, petunias, or alyssum.

Instead of using live plants or flowers in your urn, substitute a realistic silk plant or silk flowers for your arrangement. Change the silk flowers or plant to fit the season. Fill your small flower urn with objects like seashells, glass balls, potpourri, or artificial fruit for a totally different look.
