The first thing that usually comes to one's mind when they hear St.
Joseph MO mentioned is Jesse James.
Well, that is certainly true, but there is more to see and here are just a few.

1. On April 3, 1882, the notorious outlaw Jesse James was shot by a member of his own gang of outlaws, Bob Ford.
   Jesse was only 34 years old and had spent over half his life as an outlaw.
   The museum contains photos and memorabilia from his infamous life.
   
2. The Pony Express began April 3, 1860 when the first rider left on horseback from the Pikes Peak Stables in St.
   Joseph.
   They relayed horses and riders for 2,000 miles to Sacramento.
   The museum is a tribute to the brave riders who rode through inclement weather, outlaws and difficult terrain.
   There is an excellent gift shop where one can buy memorabilia of the Pony Express.
   
3. The Patee House began as a hotel in 1858.
   It was used as a terminal for the Pony Express and during the Civil War was headquarters for the Union Army Provost Marshall.
   The Outlaw Jesse James' house is near the Patee House.
   Today the museum is filled with artifacts and memorabilia of that period.
   
4. The history of Robidoux Row is rather vague but is referred to in history books as the "first apartment building west of the Mississippi.
   " It is supposedly the home of Joseph Robidoux, the founder of St.
   Joseph.
   
5. The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art contains over 3,000 works of art from the 18th, 19th and 20th century.
   A charming restaurant is available Wednesdays and Thursdays.
   The gift shop contains many articles from that period.
   
6. The St.
   Joseph Fire Museum has served as a fire station for the St.
   Joseph area for over 140 years.
   It is said that it was the first fire station to have the pole from the second floor for the fire fighters to slide down.
   The museum contains fire engines and artifacts that have been meticulously restored.
   
7. Wyeth-Tootle Mansion is typical of many of the mansions built at the turn of the century in St.
   Joseph.
   Three floors contain furniture and memorabilia of that period.
   A gift shop offers books and history artifacts.
   
8. The National Military Heritage Museum contains artifacts and memorabilia from all the war periods.
   It is a tribute to all war vets.
   

Often smaller towns contain as much history as some of the larger cities.
St.
Joseph is one of those towns that are filled with history.
