Arvind Kejriwal Becomes Delhi's Youngest Chief Minister

New Delhi: With the swearing-in ceremony at the Ramleela grounds, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has become the seventh Chief Minister of Delhi. At 45 years four months and 14 days, Kejriwal who was born on August 16, 1968 in Haryana's Siwani is the youngest Chief Minister of the city state.

After a lot of confusion due to the hung verdict in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party has stepped up with support from the Congress to form a government in Delhi.

As the youngest CM of Delhi, a political novice and the leader of a minority government, Kejriwal faces many challenges. But the new Delhi CM looks set to prove everyone wrong like he did in the polls where he managed to defeat Shiela Dikshit in a constituency from which she won multiple times.

In all ruling chief minister of India, Kejriwal is the fourth youngest after Hemant Soren (Jharkhand), Akhilesh Yadav (UP) and Omar Abdullah (J&K). Interestingly, Kejriwal's age is far above the national average age of all CMs in India, which stands at 60.96.

Former chief minister of Pudducherry, M. O. Hasan Farook Maricar still holds the record of being youngest to become chief minister of India. Born on September 6, 1937, Maricar became the CM from Congress at 29.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal boarded the metro from Kaushambi Station to take oath as Delhi Chief Minister at the Ramlila Maidan in the national capital as hundreds of people jostled with each other to board the train with him.

There was no place to stand in the Metro premises and people were falling over each other as Kejriwal arrived to board the train. The AAP leader will get off the train at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station from he will take another metro to reach Ramlila Maidan.

1.10 pm: Arvind Kejriwal at Secretariat with his ministers. He is likely to take decision on portfolio allocation at the secretariat.

12.38 pm: I am confident that Arvind Kejriwal will do a good job, says Anna Hazare.

12.32 pm: "If a government official asks you for bribe, say yes, inform us...we'll catch them red-handed," says Arvind Kejriwal.

He also thanked BJP's Harsh Vardhan calling him a "very fine man".

Kejriwal also said that there were several honest bureaucrats who wanted to work for the welfare of the country, adding that the need was for all to come together.

12.14 pm: A total of six ministers have sworn in along with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at Ramlila Maidan.
