How to Make a Breeding Tank

    • 1). Purchase supplies from your local pet store. If you are not sure how to differentiate between male and female fish of your chosen breed, ask a store representative. You should only breed one female at a time with anywhere from one to three males. Also purchase a square breeding net that will fit in your aquarium and attach to the outer rim.

    • 2). Submerge the net into your aquarium and fasten the net to the rim of the tank with the provided hooks. It is recommended to create a breeding area in this fashion rather than in a separate tank as the fish are already acclimated to their environment and you know the water is properly balanced.

    • 3). Relocate your chosen female and male fish to the breeding net.

    • 4). Remove the male fish from the breeding area once it is evident the female fish is pregnant.

    • 5). Remove the female fish from the breeding area once the guppies have hatched. Even if your chosen breed is not known for consuming their young, this is the best way to ensure their safety. Be sure to feed the guppies as well as the rest of the fish. Once the guppies have grown to a decent size, introduce them to the full aquarium.
