How to Create a Polynomial From a Perimeter
- 1). Determine the length of each of the sides. Each of these will become a term in the polynomial. For example, a square with a side of length 4x has 4 equal sides by the definition of a square so each side is length 4x where x is an unknown integer.
- 2). Create a polynomial from the sides. Each side will be separated by a "+" sign. In the example, the expression would be p = 4x + 4x + 4x + 4x where p is the perimeter.
- 3). Combine any equal sides to form a simplified polynomial. In the example, p = 4(4x) = 16x. In this case, the perimeter polynomial only has one term, 16x. The one term is considered a monomial. A monomial is a special type of one-termed polynomial.
