Canon Rebel T2i - EOS 550D Review

103 3
Canon Rebel T2i (EOS 550D) is an 18 megapixel DSLR with a significant upgraded movie mode capability (Cinema-Grade Full HD Video).
The T2i's ISO range starts at 100 and goes up to 6400.
Its LCD is large at 3 inches and the camera uses SDXC memory cards.
It uses the same 18 megapixel chip as the $1800 Canon 7D - same sensor, different body.
Most reviewers agree the T2i's image performance is impressive and the camera's specifications has huge appeal.
While it's true you don't get all the bells and whistles most feel those are really high end features that more advanced photographers would be after.
One of the areas where the T2i lags in the fast action area, again reviewers feel this is were the camera is not so capable.
Whatever Canon has done with the sensor, reviewers felt worked, and worked really well, as in the ability to deliver exceptional high ISO images.
Many felt that at ISO 6400 things were sketchy but if you stayed in the 1600 to 3200 range you would feel confident the resulting images would be clean.
Testers found the camera offered a wider array of exposure and bracketing options than Canon has historically made available in cameras of this class.
Even amateurs appreciate how small and light this camera is.
Especially people with small hands will immediately like its compact form factor.
One concern over its light weight is that if you put a larger heavier telephoto lens on it the camera may not balance as well as a larger heavier DSLR.
However, people who intend on using the T2i as a travel camera will see the obvious benefit in its small size.
Yes, it is lightweight but it's powerful enough to provide great quality photos, and with its great high ISO capability even night shots are high quality.
Bottom Line - Almost universally people feel the Canon Rebel T2i delivers excellent image and 1080p HD video.
Controls are simple and with options like the "Creative Auto Mode" even beginner DSLR owners will feel confident they can take exceptionally nice photos.
Pros will be a little nervous about the T2its lighter constructed body, lack of manual controls, and PC slot but, it has the same sensor as the much more expensive 7D.
Overall score: without hesitation this camera hits a solid 85 out of 100.
