Downloading the Attachment

• 1). Connect your smartphone to Internet access, whether through cell phone service or a wifi hotspot. Although you may be able to read the email while disconnected, you need a connection to get the attached file from your Hotmail account.
  
  
• 2). Open the email program on your smartphone. Click on the message containing the file to open the email.
  
  
• 3). Click or touch the name of the attached file. This should be listed near the top of the Hotmail message.
  
  
• 4). Click "OK" or "Yes" if you're asked if you want to download the file. Some smartphones will automatically download the attachment once the link has been clicked. Once downloaded, the file can be found in your smartphone's memory.
  
  

Opening the File

• 1). Go to the email program in your smartphone. Sign into your Hotmail account.
  
  
• 2). Open the email where you downloaded the attachment. Now that you have downloaded the file, you can open it right from this message, even if you aren't connected to the Internet.
  
  
• 3). Touch or click the attachment file. This time, the file will open instead of downloading. How the file opens depends on the file type. If it's a picture, the photo will display on the screen. Music files will start to play.
