How to Remove a John Deere Spindle on a Scotts Mower
- 1). Park the lawn mower on a hard level surface. Set the parking brake and remove the key from the ignition.
- 2). Slide the jack under the front of the frame and raise the lawn mower up. Place the jack stands under the frame in front of the front wheels. Lower the jack until the frame is resting on the jack stands.
- 3). Slide the small block of wood in between the mower deck and the mower blade so the blade cannot turn. Remove the bolt, small washer and Belleville washer that hold the mower blade to the spindle with the 5/8 socket wrench. The bolt is in the dead center of the mower blade. Repeat this step until you remove all mower blades.
- 4). Remove the three bolts holding each of the spindles against the mower deck shell with the 13 mm wrench.
- 5). Place the jack back under the frame and raise the lawn tractor. Remove the jack stands from under the frame and lower the lawn tractor back onto the ground.
- 6). Adjust the mower deck to the lowest setting by pressing on the bar located under the seat and push downward.
- 7). Remove the six 10 mm bolts from the metal belt guards directly over top of the spindles on both the right and left side of the mower deck. Pull off the belt guards.
- 8). Slide the belt off each of the spindle pulleys and pull the spindles out.
