Elmo Birthday Themes
- For a regular Elmo-themed party, decorate the space with red streamers and red balloons. Hang images that represent Sesame Street and the characters associated with the show on the walls. Place plush Elmo dolls around the area. Hang a yellow shade over a window and hang a picture of Mr. Noodle underneath it. Hang a picture of a fish bowl on a wall and write "Dorothy" on it. Play a game of "Elmo Says" and see who laughs first in a tickle competition. Serve Elmo's favorite food -- pizza -- and a cake shaped like Elmo.
- Throw your child a western-themed Elmo party by combining cowboys and Elmo together. Hang red streamers and display red balloons, but also add Western-themed elements to the decor. For example, hang picture of cactus plants on the walls, display hay bales and place plush Elmo dolls wearing cowboy hats on top of them. You could also include images of horses and cows and set out lassos. Play a game of "pin the cowboy hat on Elmo" and have children try their hand at trying to lasso an Elmo doll. You could also serve pizza at this party, but to give it a cowboy edge, perhaps consider a barbecue chicken cowboy pizza.
- For a child who is interested in firefighters and Elmo, throw a firefighter-themed Elmo party. Display pictures of firetrucks, fire hydrants and Dalmatians on the walls. Decorate the space with a combination of red, yellow and orange balloons and streamers to represent flames. Place Elmo dolls wearing firefighter gear on the tables of the party area. Set out a red blinking light, similar to one that would be seen in a firehouse. Games for this party may include a race to see who can rescue Elmo the quickest or pin the fire badge on Elmo. For food, consider tomato soup, chips and salsa (the salsa is red, like fire) and a firetruck birthday cake with Elmo riding inside.
- For an out-of-this-world Elmo party, throw a space-themed Elmo party. Cover the ceiling and walls with glow-in-the-dark stars, moons and planets and put on a black light to make the items glow. Dress Elmo dolls in space suits and suspend them from the ceiling to make it look as if he is flying through space. Hang pictures of spaceships on the walls and cover the tables with scrunched up aluminum foil. For a game, set out Elmo dolls and have children toss hula-hoops around them -- the hula hoops represent the rings of Saturn. Children can decorate paper plates to look like flying saucers and glue pictures of Elmo on top of them. Serve rock candy, English muffin pizzas (Elmo's favorite food, made to look like mini flying saucers) and a spaceship cake with Elmo looking through one of the windows.
