Notability - On January 22, 2009, 44-year-old Susan Rice was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, the third woman to hold this position.

Birth – November 17, 1964 in Washington D.C. to Emmett J. Rice, an economics professor, and Lois Dickson Fitt, an education scholar. Her father is presently a professor at Cornell University, and is a former Governor of the Federal Reserve.

Education – At her all-girls private high school, Susan Rice was valedictorian, student body president, and led the basketball team. She earned a B.A. in history from Stanford University in 1986, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She attended New College at Oxford University on a Rhodes scholarship, earning a Masters in 1988 and Doctorate in 1990.
