Today's Bed Bug Report discusses the topic of bed bugs. This topic has been in many news stories as of late. There has been much talk about hotels spreading bed bugs, and the possibility of US citizens bring bed bugs back from their trips abroad. As a result, many people are searching the internet to understand what these bugs are and how they can prevent bed bugs from infesting their lives.

Today's Bed Bug Report will review many topics concerning bed bugs. As an introduction to this blog let's discuss what a bed bug is, and give a vivid description. The hope is that you will be able to distinguish a bed bug from any other similar bug. The adult bed bug's body had is reddish brown, its bodies is oval-shaped and flat, and it is only ΒΌ inch long.

The bed bug lays eggs that will stick to most any surface. That is because the eggs are kind of sticky when they are first laid. Once they hatch they are very small. As the baby bed bug grows, it will shed its skin as much as five times as it approaches adulthood. It actually will reach adulthood in approximately one month. This growth period is pretty fast, but can be delay if temperatures are cool or if the bed bug does have a victim to feed on. However, bed bugs don't die easily. Remember the cockroach is very resilient. So is Mr. Bed Bug! A young bed bug can thrive for months with out feeding. A mature bed bug can survive a year!

Bed bugs are patient parasites. The bed bugs feeds by piercing the human skin and sucking the blood through their beaks. The process can take anywhere from three to ten minutes for the bed bug to become engorged. The slow process could be the reason why few people are awakened during the night by the bite of a bed bug.

Bed bugs can be detected by the bugs droppings on the mattress. You will notice dark brownish stains and spotting on the mattress. Bed bug bites are another way to detect the bug, however, they can be mistaken for other bug bites. Look for tiny drops of blood on the your bed linen. That will confirm your bug bites to be bed bug bites.

Bed bugs live en mass. Because of this just getting rid of your mattress and bedding may not be enough to get the pesky critter out of your house. If you suspect you have bed bugs, you may want to enlist the skills of a professional pest control to check your entire home. It pays to do your homework on these pests because they won't go away easily!
