A yeast infection doesn't need a physical examination to be determined present or not, but some couples make it a routine thing to check each other out before sex.
Practicing safe sex and knowing what you are getting yourself into is a good way to preventing catching anything from your partner.
Although a this infection is not an STD it is one of the first ideas that pops into someones head when STD is mentioned.
Knowing how to check your partner and what to look for could help you from catching and spreading this infection later.
Like anything, a yeast infection has a name- Candida.
Sure it doesn't sound like the guy who sits next to you in class but at the same time it doesn't sound like a name you would want to get involved with.
Candida, the name of the yeast associated with yeast infections isn't an STD because sex is not the only way you can get this infection.
That doesn't however, mean that you can't get it from having sex either.
Although Candida isn't biased on which gender it affects (yes males can get it too), males and females have different symptoms.
Males will have redness, irritation, and possibly white spots on the penis.
White or yellowish discharge and slight burning is another sign of a possible yeast infection.
Unusual soreness during and/or after sexual intercourse can present another helpful clue in diagnosing this infection.
Women's three most common and tale-tell signs are itching, burning, and discharge.
These are also the three most complained about signs when having a confirmed infection.
Having these three signs along with a cottage cheese looking substance in the vagina is an almost definite sign of Candida.
Both males and females should seek medical attention if suspected to have a yeast infection.
Left untreated, this can easily manifest into an STD or other infections that can be twice as hard to get rid of.
These infections are annoying and are an awful thing to deal with (like athlete's foot in your genital area!).
However, there are many remedies and medications at any local drug-store or online that can equally help treat this infection.
