Today's Inspiring Thought: Love Sinners, Hate Sin

The essence of this verse is "love sinners while hating sin."

A fireman can't rescue someone from a burning building unless he's willing to run into the heat and surrounding flames.


You won't be able to rescue sinners unless you're willing to go to them, perhaps get a little dirty and expose yourself to some heat.

Even still, a fireman on a rescue mission enters a burning building with extreme caution. He's careful to bring his tools and wear the appropriate protective gear so that he won't be overcome by the smoke or burned by the fire. God has given us tools—spiritual weapons and protective gear to wear when we reach out to sinners—the armor of God.

Before you go on a rescue mission, here's a checklist to be sure you're prepared: Is your motive love? Have you covered the mission with prayer, asking the Lord to fill you with the Holy Spirit's grace and power to accomplish the mission? Are you walking in truthfulness and covered in Christ's righteousness? Are you prepared to spread the gospel of peace? Are you carrying your shield of faith? Is your mind protected with the helmet of salvation and are wielding your sword—the Word of God?
