How to Remove the Information You Exchanged in a Pop Up
- 1). Highlight the information by left-clicking and dragging the mouse button. If you're lucky enough not to have pressed "OK" or enter, this is the quickest way to undo your mistake. Alternatively, hit "Cancel."
- 2). Change your password(s). If you typed in the user name and password to an account thinking the pop up was authentic, go immediately to the real site from the address bar. Type the exact address, do not rely on shortcuts. Log in and find the "Change Password" option. If it is too late and your account has been hacked, send an e-mail to customer service letting them know. They should be able to restore your account once you prove it's yours.
- 3). Cancel your credit/debit cards immediately, if applicable. It takes a very short time for someone to run un-authorized charges on your card. Report them stolen and request a new card.
- 4). Check your credit report often to make sure your identity hasn't been stolen. Request a free report (see Resources) once a year or consider purchasing a service that will check regularly and alert you to unauthorized debts.
