How to Replace the Wood Panels in the Bed of a 73 Chevy Pickup
- 1). Remove the nuts from the ends of the bolts underneath the truck using an impact gun. Spray aerosol lubricant oil on the threads to loosen rusted nuts. Be especially careful with the edge bolts in the angle trim.
- 2). Unbolt the indented hex head bolts in the back corners of the bed below the stake pockets to remove the rear sash, releasing the floor boards. Pull the boards from the bed through the tailgate opening, taking the bolt strips with them.
- 3). Use the original edge boards as a template to mark new holes and bore 3/8 inch holes in each marked location. Fit the edge boards into place, fitting them from the bottom and threading the nuts onto the bolts in the angle trim.
- 4). Replace the rear sill and bolt it in place. Fit the remaining bed boards in place following the diagram that came with the bed kit. Leave space between boards for the metal bed strips. Fit the strips into place with the turned down edges in the grooves along the edges of the boards.
- 5). Fit a bolt through each hole in the bed strips and through the end of each board through the rear sill. Thread a nut onto each bolt from underneath and tighten the nuts with an impact gun.
