Gradually clean up your diet. Find a list of Alkalinizing/Acidifying foods, and use that to gradually clean up your diet. Since most of us are too acid, our goal here is to introduce more alkalinizing foods (for example, leafy green vegetables) while weaning ourselves from all things acidifying (i.e. sugar, white flour, and processed foods). This phase can go as slowly or as quickly as you need, depending on the urgency of your physical condition and your emotional attachment to food. Don't overwhelm yourself if it feels like more than you can handle. You want success here, not frustration.

Find a doctor who supports your views. Now is a great time to visit your doctor and get his/her views on pH balance and your particular condition. Keep in mind that many doctors, especially those not trained in alternative or holistic health, hold antiquated views of nutrition and its role in preventing and curing disease. Always keep in mind that you're the one living in your body, and if you don't agree with your doctor it's ok to find one who supports what you feel is right for you. Most doctors are knowledgable, caring individuals, but they can only treat patients based on the information they have.

Do a pH test. These are very easy, affordable tests that can be found in health food stores or online. The best ones test both urine and saliva over the course of a few days to give an accurate reading. You simply match the color on your test strip with the chart provided with the test to see where you stand. The goal is to be at 7.0, which is base or neutral pH.

Do a Green Cleanse. Different sources will make different recommendations at this point in the process. Most agree that as a kickstart to your new alkalinizing eating plan, it's critical to pull the old acids out of your cells with a period of consuming only the most alkalinizing foods. This starts with 2-7 days of just fresh, raw organic vegetables both juiced and whole. You can also supplement with one of many great green drink powders on the market. If you use a powder, be sure it's free of mushrooms and probiotics. Be sure to drink plenty of pure water during this entire process- at least 4 litres a day. You can include the water you mix with the green powder in that amount.

Consume an all-alkalinizing diet including a pH supplement. For the next 7 weeks, add in other alkalinizing foods from the list you've found. This will include some nuts and seeds, cold-pressed oils, and brown rice. A good alkaline supplement will also help to pull the acids out of your cells.

Do another pH test. It's a good idea to moniter your pH from time to time, even after you've achieved balance, to keep track of how you're doing and to make any necessary adjustments.

Shift to an 80/20 diet. By now, you should be feeling energized and seeing an improvement in your pH. You can now feel free to add in foods that are acidifying, keeping your plate at 80% alkalinizing and 20% acidifying. That's a visual measure. Continue to drink water with the drops and to take your supplement.

Shift to a 70/30 diet. That's right, if you feel healthy and balanced, go ahead and shift your visual measure of your plate to 70% alkalinizing and 30% acidifying. Many sources will recommend this as an optimal eating plan for life.
