Spooktacular Halloween Crafts
- Paint or draw a ghost face on a white plastic plate and attach white plastic streamers to the bottom edge of the plate to create an indoor or outdoor ghost to hang up. Make ghostly flags from torn sheet pieces or old white t shirts. Form a face by ironing on black fusible patches. Make ghost puppets from cheesecloth and paper bags. Cut a large circle of fabric and glue it over an upside-down white paper bag. Leave plenty of flowing fabric loose for a more ghostly look. Glue on foam eyes and a mouth to finish the puppet.
- Make pose-able witches from sturdy paper. Freehand draw and cut out separate parts for a witch's head, hat, dress, arms and legs. Attach all the parts together with paper fasteners so they will move. Decorate the completed witch with paint or markers. Create a spooky wreath from a fabric witch's hat. Staple a loop of yarn on the brim edge to hang the hat flat against a surface. Glue long strands of black tinsel or yarn along the bottom edge of the hat for hair. Paint a phrase on the brim of the hat, such as "Eeeee, I dare you to enter!" Make small witch favors from green pom poms. Roll a small piece of black paper into a cone shape. Tape the cone onto a black circle slightly larger than the open end of the cone. Glue the "hat" onto a green pom. Tape on a loop of yarn for a hanger if desired.
- Make a monster garland. Cut 3-by-6 inch strips of different colors of produce bag netting. Thread a 1-yard length of plastic lacing through holes near the top of each strip of netting. Glue on some plastic craft eyes as well as foam nose and mouth shapes. Thread colorful chenille stems into each strip to create arms and legs or creative monster parts. Create monster treat cups for a party. Use green or purple plastic party cups. Glue on yarn hair, craft eyes and features cut from felt scraps.
- Paint Jack-o-lanterns, witches or monsters onto clear plastic jars or vellum bags. To display the glowing creatures, open and place a glow-stick inside the jars or bags. Consider having kids paint on a paper plate with glow-in-the-dark paint to create a monster or other Halloween creature. Expose the paint to light before putting it out in the dark to glow.
