Fishermen rely on fish finders to help ensure a productive day on the water. However, when the screen of a fish finder is challenged by sunlight it can be come hard to read and the fisherman can become frustrated from straining his eyes. There are products available on the market to help reduce the glare that is produced by sun on the screen of fish finders. - Day-Vue is one manufacturer that has developed and markets an anti-reflective film that is light and installs directly to the fish-finder view screen. This film helps to reduce the glare while making the colors on the fish-finder screen appear more vibrant. Anti-reflective films are made of very thin, durable plastic that are designed to reduce glare and provide protection to the fish-finder screen. However, most manufacturers, such as Day-Vue, caution that while the anti-reflective film will help in most sunlight conditions, it will not be helpful if the screen of the fish finder is subject to full direct sunlight.
- Hoods are essentially bonnets for fish-finder equipment. For a hood to work, the fish finder must be mounted on top of a dash so that there is room to attach the hood. The hood wraps around the top and side of the fish finder with the sides and top of the hood extending slightly past the edge of the fish finder. The result is that a shadow is cast across the screen of the fish finder, making the screen easier to see.
- Alternative mounting methods are often overlooked as a potential way to shade a fish finder. Many fisherman look for ways to mount a fish finder on the top of the boat dash board, the intention of this mounting method is easy viewing. However, many fish finders can fit into a cubbyhole in the dash board that is still above or next to the steering wheel. This kind of mount provides the fish finder with shade to enhance visibility and protection from water spray when traveling across the water.
