How to Remove Rodent Urine Odor
- 1). Find the source of the rodent urine odor. Typically this area will be a stain that is darker and wetter than the areas around it. If your rodents are in a cage, look near the cage for clues. Otherwise, look near holes or sources of food for source areas.
- 2). Expose the stained area to sunlight. Sunlight exposure helps to kill the bacteria causing the urine odor. A few minutes of exposure will neutralize any odor.
- 3). Pour rubbing alcohol onto the stain. The rubbing alcohol will dry on its own, and take the smell of the rodent urine odor with it. You should not need to rinse out the rubbing alcohol.
- 4). Apply baking soda to the stain and leave it on the stain overnight. In the morning, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda, then re-apply a new batch of baking soda to the affected area. Use a wet cloth to rub the soda into the area, then rinse with water. Vacuum it again when the area is dry.
