How to Decorate a Small Patio for Fall
- 1). Draft on paper a basic patio area design in order to determine the types of supplies that will be needed to achieve the design.
- 2). Make all of the purchases necessary to achieve the design as planned in Step 1 above.
- 3). String garlands of faux autumn leaves around a fake fichus or other type of tree. Tie additional individual branches of leaves into the tree to complete the overall look. Place the tree in a large pot that is in an appropriate autumn color or wrap it with plant foil in an appropriate color.
- 4). String strands of autumn-colored lights on the tree. Or, place then along the railing of the patio area. Attach an extension cord if necessary in order to reach the electrical outlet. Staple or tape lights carefully along the railing to secure them in place.
- 5). Put a hay bail in front of the tree.
- 6). Sit a large scarecrow (anywhere from 24 to 36 inches in height) on top of the hay bail. Secure it in place with long floral pins.
- 7). Place autumn potted plants (real or fake) around the scarecrow on top of the hay bail.
- 8). Cover any patio cushions or pillows with inexpensive autumn fabric that can be purchased at a discount department or fabric store. Another option is to "pop" existing patio furniture with throw pillows in autumn-colored fabric.
- 9). String additional strands of faux autumn leaves around patio posts or railings if desired. Staple or tape the leaves carefully into place.
