Growing up in a world full of skeptic, uncertainly, and adversity can damage a person's self esteem.
One of the best defensive mechanisms for low self-esteem is resilience.
When you learn to apply resilience to your life, you are one-step closer to building your self confidence.
Resilience is the ability to recover from illness, adversity, and depression.
The only way you can build self esteem is to apply resilience to your life.
Life is full of disappointments.
Being able to recover from them is what builds your confidence.
Teenagers that are faced with challenging life events are less likely to be resilient if their parents were unable to provide attention and support during childhood.
If you are raised in a dysfunctional family, your self-esteem is affected to some degree.
There are things in your life that you may not like or agree with but you have to accept that you will not change other people unless they want to change.
The only person that you can change is yourself.
If the situation is overbearing talk to teachers, life coaches, friends, and other adults who are willing to listen to your concerns.
Try not to hide your emotions because this will only make things worse.
It is a good idea to get into the habit of praising yourself.
Make a list of all of the things you like about yourself.
Do you like the way you smile? Do you like your eyes? Are you a friendly person? Can you make people laugh? Try to write down ten things you like about yourself and carry it in a notebook, phone or memorized this list.
Anytime you are challenged think about what you like about you.
Do not let anyone determine if you are worthy.
If you build on what you like about yourself, you can begin to love yourself unconditionally.
