If you want to keep your lawn green during the hot summer months you need to water it.
If you don't have an irrigation or sprinkler system, there are at least five different types of overhead sprinklers that you can attach to your hose.
Overhead sprinklers water your lawn like a gentle rain and keep it lush and green whatever the weather.
Here are five different types of sprinklers that attach to your hose: Donut.
This is a simple sprinkler with no moving parts.
It is shaped like a donut with holes around the perimeter and around the center hole.
It emits a symmetrical watering pattern shaped like a circular spray of water.
Oscillating.
This type of sprinkler has a single bar punched with a series of holes.
It has a mechanism to oscillate the bar back and forth, creating a fan-shaped arc of water.
The oscillating mechanism can be adjusted from a full side to side movement to any level on both sides.
That way you can water only one side of an area and make the sprinkler stop at the zenith of the arc.
Spinning.
A small sprinkler with two short brass arms.
The arms are filled with holes and also have larger holes on the ends of each arm.
The arms spin from the force of the water and it waters a circular area.
Adjust the size of the area by turning the spigot up or down.
Sprinkler hose (sometimes mistakenly called a soaker hose).
This is a flat hose with tiny holes along only one of the flat sides.
The side of the hose that lays on the ground has no holes in it.
As a result, the water shoots out of the holes along the top of the hose like a row of tiny sprinklers.
Good for watering long narrow strips of grass or flower beds.
Decorative copper sprinklers.
These are usually raised a few feet above ground level with a vertical copper pipe.
Attached to the top of the pipe is a novelty-shaped sprinkler head.
These are usually nature- or garden-themed, such as a dragonfly, hummingbird or flower.
The top may or may not move by spinning or oscillating.
Lawn sprinklers that attach to your garden hose are an affordable way to water your lawn and keep it looking good all summer long.
For best results and a green lawn, let them water one specific area for at least 2 to 3 hours at a time.
