Kids' Games to Play at Christmas Parties

    Who's Santa?

    • Start this game by choosing a child to play Rudolph. That kid has to go to another room out of earshot for a couple of minutes while the rest of the kids assemble themselves into a circle. Pick a kid to play Santa and explain that he has to wink at the kids in the circle, one at a time, while trying not to get caught by Rudolph. Tell the rest of the kids that when Santa winks at one of them, that player has to say, "Ho! Ho! Ho!" Bring Rudolph back and have him stand in the middle of the circle. Rudolph must try to identify Santa by catching him winking at someone or by studying the other players' faces and behavior. When Santa gets found out, he becomes the new Rudolph.

    Mistletoe Kisses

    • Have all the kids sit in a circle and give two random players a piece of mistletoe each. Start some music and have the players toss the mistletoe around the circle until you turn the music off. When the music stops playing, the two kids who have the mistletoe have to blow kisses to one another. For older kids, you can have the two caught with the mistletoe each say a word that relates to Christmas. If they cannot come up with a word within five seconds, they get disqualified and the last player remaining in the circle wins the game.

    Snowball Race

    • Buy some white polystyrene foam balls big enough to pose a bit of a challenge when trying to balance them on a spoon. Divide the players into two teams and have each team line up behind a starting point. Give each team one spoon and a pair of mittens. The first player in each team has to put his mittens on, grab the spoon, place the foam snowball on the spoon and head toward a finish line at the opposite side of the room. He then returns to the starting line and hands off his spoon and gloves to the next player, who performs the same task. If someone drops the snowball, he has to start over at the starting point. The game ends when all of the players on one team have made it to the finish line and back before their opponents.
