    • 1). Read the manufacturer's operating manual.

    • 2). Clear the work area of sticks, stones and other things that could be thrown by the blades.

    • 3). Be sure you have enough daylight left to finish the job.

    • 4). Disengage the clutch and shift the mower into neutral before starting the engine.

    • 5). Set the mower at the highest cutting point to use it on uneven ground.

    • 6). Mow up and down slopes, not sideways.

    • 7). Reduce speed on slopes and when turning sharply.

    • 8). Watch for rocks and holes.

    • 9). Replace worn grass-catcher bags.
