Hair Transplant Pricing— Per Graft vs. Sessions

Brief on Hair transplant Procedure

This is one of the greatest marvels of medical aesthetics, wherein a person's own existing hair taken from the back of the scalp (donor zone) can be used to restore baldness and receding hair lines (recipient zone) with a permanent hair that would look natural and resume with normal hair growth cycle.

There are two methods of extracting the donor hair for replacement in the recipient zone— FUT procedure, that takes down a strip of skin from the donor zone, the skin strip containing numerous hair follicles are dissected under a microscope to create individual 2-5hair grafts. And the other one is FUE procedure, which removes 2-5hair follicular units directly from the scalp by plucking them one at a time.

What is a Hair Graft?

A hair graft is referred to the hair follicular unit after it is taken out of the donor zone with a thin sheath of fatty tissue to secure the graft with essential moisture and save it from surgical trauma.

Paying per Graft or Session?

A surgeon can estimate an approx graft number by looking at the patient's baldness pattern, donor reserve and other factors during a consultation. They can also tell if one or more sessions are required to achieve the desired results. But it is virtually impossible to estimate an accurate costing based on how many grafts the candidate is going to need. While a session can be all inclusive of all taxes, with an estimation of a graft number that can be more or less the accurate grafts needed, the grafts that are lost during the procedure and the grafts that goes on achieving successful hair growth.

Full head hair transplantation typically requires more or less 2500 to 3000 grafts.

Paying per graft—The pay per graft price scheme bases the surgery cost on individual graft numbers starting from 1-3000 hair grafts. The patients can actually have the knowledge of every penny they spend. It seems that either the patient or the surgeon has to lose a percent of profit because the exact number of grafts cannot be estimated until the surgery is complete, plus considering graft transection and survival rates, total used graft numbers can only be finalized after the surgery, and most certainly after the payment. Moreover, there would be anaesthetic charges; surgeon's fees and other charges to add to the bill. However, the per graft payment option is more significant when about 500grafts or less grafts are required, or in case of a second touch up surgery or eyebrow hair restoration.  FUE procedure is more applicable for graft wise hair transplant pricing.

Payment by Session— The session wise pricing includes everything including an estimated graft number; anaesthetic and hospital charges and so on within an all inclusive payment option. The session wise charge might be worthwhile in case of a full scale surgery, but when less than 500grafts are the requirement, a session of 7hours and the hospital and other charges are partly non-returnable unused payment.  A singular fully fledged 2500-3000graft replacement with FUT procedure is obtainable within 7hour session.

Conclusion

It is not presumable that the FUE hair transplant price is fit for graft wise payment, while the FUT procedure is fit for session wise. The point is to keep a close estimation of your money well used and paid for maximum value and viable results.

However, many surgeons willingly offer per graft pricing, but patients are made aware that the exact number of grafts used cannot be accurately estimated, there can be up to 100grafts difference here or there. Some surgeons also offer refund also, while if more grafts are required with patients reluctant to pay the extra. Per graft pricing can be very complicated and fit for smaller grafting.

A surgeon is dedicated to her/his craft and the cosmetic result they achieve, and when they are forced to see that hair graft worth £3, it is much intended to raise a surgeon's stress to save it, added to the stress of saving on donor supply. A session makes allows the surgeon a more primitive course of procedure.
