A Peak Into Our Not-For-Profit Foundation

The Wilderness Unlimited Foundation (WUF) is working on one of the largest habitat restoration and enhancement initiatives ever conducted on private lands in the western United States.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit (501(c)3) entity. It was formed in keeping with Wilderness Unlimited's long time leadership of maintaining our traditional outdoor heritage, wildlife habitat enhancement programs, and hands-on education. The Foundation is overseen by a Board of Directors separate from Wilderness Unlimited (WU).

WU leases and manages the recreational use and wildlife on hundreds of thousands of acres of ranches and private properties from southern California through northern Oregon. Members of WU have the opportunity to enjoy broadly diverse outdoor activities on landscapes ranging from costal lowlands, streams, central valley wetlands and oak savannahs, to high elevation working ranches. WU's leases keep these lands from being sold to developers and lost forever.

Habitat issues on private lands have always presented the greatest challenges. These properties contain thousands of acres and miles of streams that are critical to threatened wildlife and fisheries. The Foundation is in the unique position to sponsor a market-based approach that can lever WU's lessee relationship with these landowners to collaborate on improvements. This collaboration is about discovering the common ground between the goals of the landowners, and the goals of the state and federal conservation incentive programs. This model has been successfully utilized on working ranches in the Pacific Northwest. It gets projects on the ground! It's a common sense approach where the landowner, the conservation agencies, and especially the environment, fish, and wildlife become the ultimate winners.

Our Hunter Safety Course

WUF offers various hunter safety courses throughout the year. These courses include 1-Day and 2-Day with 4-hour Online Follow-Up courses. All courses are taught by a certified hunter safety instructor.

1-Day Course
The 1-Day course consists of approximately 10-hours of consecutive instruction. Students will read through the hunter safety manual, review topics using discussion, lectures, speakers, and video. At the end of the class, students will take the hunter safety test and upon passing will receive their hunter safety certification. This is a fast paced course.

2-Day Course
In addition to the 1-Day hunter safety course, WUF is now offering 2-Day courses with a 4-hour Online Follow-Up course.

The 2-Day course held over one weekend allows better hands on instruction for students. Along with what is completed in the 1-Day course, students will have the opportunity to practice in field situations, handle and shoot firearms and have plenty of time to ask all the questions they need. The 2-Day course is a slower paced course that is ideal for the younger student.

The 4-Hour Online Follow-Up course is for those students that have completed an online course. The online course can be completed at the students own pace. Once the online portion is complete, contact WUF to schedule a time to complete the in-class portion of the course. The online course allows students to work at their own pace. Our hunter safety instructor recommends the following online course (http://www.hunterexam.com/usa/California/). Please contact WUF prior to starting your online program.
