How to Make Centerpieces for Weddings Out of Long and Thin Vases
- 1). Select the tree branches, sold at craft stores or gardening stores, for use with the vases you have chosen. Create a wintery effect on the branches by using white spray paint, followed by a glitter spray paint, and allow to dry. You can also glue white battery-operated LED lights, found in party stores, to the branches to illuminate darkened reception sites. Fill the vases with potpourri, real or artificial leaves or sand for an autumn or winter wedding.
- 2). Select flowers for use with the vases. You can use flowers even if they are shorter than your chosen vases. Fill the vases with decorative gemstones or beads from a craft store, small seashells or other decorative objects. Fill the rest of the way with water.
- 3). Insert flowers into the vases. The decorative items added to the bottom of each vase serve as "props" for short flowers, so the buds of the flowers will poke out above the top of each vase. If using tall flowers, insert them into the water first and then add decorations.
- 1). Select vases which have a diameter measuring at least 10 to 12 inches from the middle of the vase toward the top. Fluted vases, which expand in diameter from the bottom to the top of the vase, are ideal. Add vase filler, found at craft stores, to fill the first inch or two at the bottom of each vase.
- 2). Place small LED lights, usually available in craft stores, beneath each vase. Use tape or glue to secure into place. Add a lampshade to the top of each vase. Fill each vase with water, leaving 2 to 3 inches bare at the top of the vase.
- 3). Place one to two live goldfish into each vase. Avoid placing vases in areas where fish will be exposed to direct sunlight. Goldfish thrive in cold water.
- 1). Select a short flower for use in each vase. Thin flowers, such as hydrangeas, roses, tulips, carnations and orchids make the best candidates for underwater centerpiece ideas. The flower should not be taller than the vase.
- 2). Insert one flower into each vase. You can add a thin layer of decorative stones, gemstones, beads, vase filler or other items to the bottom of each vase first. Fill the rest of the way with water.
- 3). Add one or more floating candles per vase, depending on the diameter at the top of the vase. Light candles shortly before the beginning of the reception.
