The Plus Size Halloween Costume Hunt

103 27
When they made the announcement that we were all invited to the Halloween office party this year, my immediate reaction was to politely decline since I suspected it would be next to impossible to find a costume to fit my larger than average frame.
The usual toga wrap just wasn't doing it for me and I was once again feeling left out of a society that focuses primarily on the average build.
Some of the girls began to make plans immediately and their enthusiasm was contagious even though I knew most of the excitement was due to the memo having also mentioned an all-expense paid week in Las Vegas for the best disguise.
I didn't even give that a second thought since I knew I'd be doing well just to find something to fit a full-figured lady like myself.
That evening I began my quest, not at the local mall or at any of the downtown boutiques but right from the comfort of my own home, on the computer.
I plugged a few descriptive words into the search box such as, "plus-size", "costumes", "full-figure" and "Halloween" and lo and behold there sat thousands of results .
.
.
everything from Vixens and Harlots to Queens and Gypsies.
I finally found a (site)1 that not only led to a fabulous assortment of women's plus-size fashions but to a mountain of (risqué)2 items of interest as well.
I was feeling naughty and loving every minute of it.
I finally decided to go with the "Female Pirate Outfit" because the stories about the renegades of yore have always fascinated me.
After quickly and easily placing my order, I went to bed and dreamt about tall ships and vast, blue oceans.
On the evening of the party, I masqueraded around the house showing off my costume to my husband and children.
I knew everything would fit perfectly because I had tried them on as soon as they arrived just in case I had to use the merchant's return policy to exchange an item.
They dropped me at the office and whisked off to do who knows what.
I took a deep breathe and with all the flare and self-confidence I could muster, I entered the party to a round of applause.
I looked around to see that no one else was in a costume.
They were all wearing their business attire.
My initial shock turned to amazement and tears when the CEO made the announcement on the intercom that I had won first prize and was going to Las Vegas for an entire week! She went on to explain that the employees had decided to do this because they wanted me to win, knowing that my husband and I hadn't been on a vacation in years.
Then all of my colleagues sidled up to me and hugged me one by one.
We toasted to the great open sea.
